Fuck yea, my MST is finally over!
3 weeks of well-deserved break !
Though I have plenty of assignments to do during these 3 weeks... =.=

But at least I get to sleep and wake up late for 3 weeks

Meanwhile, band practices with Maris Alumni band have been going well, some of the songs are quite nice really :)
Now that it's the holidays, I can spend more time on the pieces.

I like the vibraphone part, and right now I'm trying to learn the piece cos I want to play it :)
I've been sticking to the drums for my previous few performances, and haven't really touched mallet instruments in a while.. the last time I played mallet percussion for a performance was in Sec3.
Another reason is also because my section is currently lacking in players, as most of them are serving NS :\, so I can use this opportunity to play the mallet parts, which they normally play

For those of you who don't know what a vibraphone is.. It's like a xylophone.. A band usually has the glockenspiel, xylophone, marimba & vibraphone as their mallet percussion, they are all family members of the piano. I think knowing how to play music is a blessing and something you should never take for granted. Through music, you can impress other people, groom it into a talent or play for yourself to de-stress. But playing music doesn't just mean you know how to produce music, it also provides a platform for self-discipline. It's common sense right?

When you go to a concert, do the musicians wear singlets and slippers, with tattoos and whacko hairstyles etc..? NO, they are formally attired and well-groomed individuals meant to portray discipline and class to the audience. That's the on-stage part.
What about off-stage?

Isn't it common sense as well?
Playing with a band/orchestra requires you to cooperate with your conductor as well as orchestra mates, and have the determination & dedication to practice. How are you going to be a good musician if you don't even have the discipline to do all these? It's no surprise most of my band mates who play their instrument well have gone to good JCs and are doing well there.. Call me stereotypical or not, I just feel that good discipline is a prerequisite of good music and they are somehow related.

And playing with Maris Alumni has its standards to fulfill as well, therefore playing with the alumni always makes me feel like I'm worth something. I'm just quite glad for the opportunities my school's band has given me and what I have learnt over the past 9 years since joining band in Pri school.
Maris Alumni Band is something I will never take for granted :)
